Maggie Goodlander Leads in New Hampshire's 2nd District Race

Amidst the ongoing vote count in New Hampshire, Democrat Maggie Goodlander is maintaining a lead over Republican challenger Lily Tang Williams in the race to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster in the 2nd District. With 18% of precincts reporting, Goodlander had garnered 57% of the vote compared to Williams' 42%. Goodlander has planned to gather with her supporters in Concord on Tuesday night as the results for this open House seat continue to come in. She cast her ballot at Ledge Street Elementary School in Nashua, her birthplace. Engaging with voters at Hollis-Brookline High School, Goodlander expressed her readiness to serve in Congress, backed by her experience across all three branches of government.

Her roles have included being a White House aide during the Biden Administration, counsel to the House Judiciary Committee, and also clerking for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. "I love this state, and I believe deeply in what the United States House of Representatives can accomplish for the 2nd District," Goodlander stated confidently. "We've dedicated ourselves every day to meeting voters, and I'm committed to working tirelessly for this district." Goodlander is married to Jake Sullivan, a national security adviser, though his involvement in her campaign is restricted due to the Hatch Act, which curtails political activities for federal employees. Lily Tang Williams, on the other hand, spent part of her day engaging with voters in Salem.

Her campaign has gained traction and nationwide attention, particularly following a recent debate with Goodlander. Tang Williams enters this race perceiving herself as the underdog, focusing her campaign on pressing issues such as inflation, border security, illegal immigration, and curbing federal spending. She brings a unique personal narrative to her campaign as a self-described "survivor of communist China." "I grew up in poverty and understand the everyday challenges people face both economically and mentally," she shared. Tang Williams aims to be an independent, grassroots representative for the 2nd District. "Running a grassroots campaign signifies that I'm beholden to no one but the people," she asserted. On the financial front, she revealed that a clip from her recent debate with Goodlander had gone viral, resulting in her campaign raising $50,000 since.
