Greece Enhances Disaster and Maritime Monitoring with ICEYE SAR Satellites

SAR satellites and data empower Greece to enhance disaster detection and maritime awareness. ICEYE, a leader in SAR satellite operations, has announced a significant collaboration with Greece's National Satellite Space Project Axis 1.2, in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). This initiative aims to bolster Greece's SAR Space Segment with two ICEYE SAR satellites and develop a comprehensive observation system, enhancing monitoring capabilities immediately with access to ICEYE's extensive SAR satellite constellation.

Since 2018, ICEYE has deployed 38 satellites, providing invaluable data to international clients. Greece will soon receive SAR imagery from ICEYE, enabling rapid monitoring and improving disaster management, including flood and wildfire detection. The collaboration aims to speed up the growth of Greece's space sector, further facilitated by a new ICEYE assembly facility in Greece.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE, expressed pride in supporting Greece's space initiatives, noting that ICEYE's SAR capabilities will advance national security and environmental monitoring. Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, emphasized the project's potential to speed up disaster responses and enhance national security, demonstrating Greece's commitment to advanced space technologies.

Deputy Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis highlighted the agreement's role in strengthening Greece's disaster response capabilities and driving innovation in the space sector. Secretary General Prof. Konstantinos Karantzalos pointed out the program's ambition to enhance remote sensing capabilities around the clock.

Simonetta Cheli, Director of Earth Observation Programmes at ESA, praised the collaboration as evidence of ESA's support for member states' initiatives, highlighting the benefits of unified observation frameworks. The ICEYE and ESA partnership underlines the vital role of advanced space technologies in addressing real-world challenges.

ICEYE offers unmatched persistent monitoring, utilizing the world's largest SAR satellite constellation to provide real-time insights under all conditions.
