Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley stated on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that she would not have run for president if she believed former President Donald Trump was a great candidate. Her comments highlight her commitment to offering better leadership alternatives. During the interview, host Margaret Brennan questioned Haley about her involvement in Trump's campaign and how she views the current political landscape. Nikki Haley clarified that she had not been asked to campaign for Trump but expressed willingness to be helpful if needed.
She emphasized that her focus remains on policies, not personal grievances, contrasting her approach with Trump’s. Haley mentioned that Trump had recently finished a press conference, predominantly addressing past grievances, and Brennan questioned the effectiveness of this strategy, particularly regarding female voters.Haley reiterated her position by stating that if she thought either Trump or President Biden were great candidates, she wouldn't have run. Her decision to run stemmed from her belief that she could offer superior governance. While acknowledging Trump as the Republican nominee, Haley pointed out differences in style, approach, and communication between herself and Trump.
Despite these differences, she emphasized her agreement with many of Trump’s policies compared to those of Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.Highlighting Harris's meteoric rise to candidacy without a primary vote, Haley questioned her track record and compared it unfavorably with Trump’s. She argued that, for voters, the decision should hinge on which candidate's policies better impact their family's finances, safety, and national security. Haley concluded that from her perspective, Trump’s policies had previously improved the economy, enhanced national security, and bolstered energy dominance. Therefore, she deemed Trump the best available candidate to restore these areas effectively.
