The Dallas Cowboys continue their cherished annual tradition of trading their football cleats for aprons, bringing holiday cheer to the community through their partnership with the Salvation Army. "It's important to engage with the community, meet our fans, and give back to those who support us year-round," remarked Cowboys Running Back Zeke Elliott. This year, they spread joy by serving turkey, dressing, and pumpkin pie at Salvation Army locations in Dallas and Fort Worth, scoring big smiles from all those present.
Joining the festivities was Wide Receiver Brandin Cooks, who brought along his son, Maverick, to instill values of kindness and generosity. "He's fortunate, and I want him to learn the importance of being a blessing to others," Cooks explained. Among the attendees, Katrina Anderson, a devoted Cowboys fan, was thrilled to be served pumpkin pie by right guard Zach Martin. "Oh my God, I am so excited," Anderson exclaimed, delighted by the experience. In turn, Martin enjoyed the interaction with Anderson, noting, "Katrina had me sign her paper with 'My love, Katrina,' and it was quite amusing."
Unfortunately, quarterback Dak Prescott was absent this year due to a scheduled surgery for a hamstring injury on Wednesday. "We're all thinking of Dak; he means so much to our team and organization," said Martin, expressing the team's support for their teammate. Major Paul McFarland, Salvation Army of North Texas Area Commander, emphasized the increased demand for assistance, citing rising costs of food, utilities, and rent. Many families seeking help have never visited the Salvation Army before.
"The funds raised go directly to support these families," McFarland said. Charlotte Jones, the Cowboys' Chief Brand Officer, highlighted the community's role in the Salvation Army's success. "We've raised over 4 billion dollars for the Salvation Army, all through community participation in our red kettle drive. Every quarter, dime, and nickel counts," she stated. The Cowboys' steadfast support for the kettle drive has now reached an impressive 28 years, a testament to their enduring commitment to giving back.
This partnership not only provides essential funding for shelters and assistance programs but also brings the spirit of the season to those in need, embodying what it means to be a blessing to others.
