The Heart of Ellsworth is thrilled to announce its receipt of a significant $200,000 grant from the Maine Office of Tourism. This generous grant is part of the broader Tourism Marketing & Development Recovery Program, supported with a substantial $2 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The main goal of this program is to support Maine’s travel and tourism sectors in navigating and recovering from the financial hurdles presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The awarded funds will empower Heart of Ellsworth to significantly boost its marketing strategies, thereby promoting the area as a lively and inviting destination for travelers.
This financial support comes at a pivotal moment, granting us the means to broaden our outreach initiatives and craft new tourism assets that will serve and benefit the community for many years to come. "We are deeply honored to receive this grant from the Maine Office of Tourism," says Cara Romano, Executive Director of Heart of Ellsworth. She further emphasizes the crucial role this funding will play in establishing downtown Ellsworth as a distinctive and appealing destination within Maine. She envisions Ellsworth as the perfect hub for visitors, whether they wish to explore the stunning Bold Coast, the alluring Schoodic Peninsula, or the picturesque Blue Hill/Deer Isle region. With this support, travelers can use Ellsworth as a base to embark on day trips, thereby enriching their authentic Maine visiting experience.
The Tourism Marketing & Development Recovery Program is specifically designed to support projects that offer long-term transformative impacts, reach diverse groups of visitors, and enhance Maine’s tourism assets. All projects financed under this program are expected to be completed by September 2025.
