Naperville Man Found Deceased in DuPage River - Investigation Ongoing

A 44-year-old Naperville man was found deceased Saturday within the West Branch of the DuPage River, located in the Burlington Park Forest Preserve. This tragic discovery prompted a swift response from local authorities, with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage initiating an immediate investigation. Preliminary findings, as detailed in a news release, strongly suggest that foul play was not a factor in the man’s death. The individual’s identity remains undisclosed at this time, adhering to protocol established by the Forest Preserve District. A comprehensive autopsy was conducted by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office on Monday, however, a definitive cause of death has yet to be determined and remains under investigation. The discovery occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m., with Naperville and district police officers responding to a report of the body’s presence within the unincorporated 1002 Douglas Ave. preserve. Following the removal of the body, law enforcement immediately secured the perimeter of the scene to facilitate a thorough and systematic investigation.

Naperville police Cmdr. Rick Krakow stated that the case is currently being handled entirely by forest preserve district police, ensuring a focused approach to the inquiry. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage emphasized that there is no immediate threat to public safety, providing reassurance to the community. Recognizing the importance of maintaining access to recreational areas, Burlington Park Forest Preserve remains open to the public.
