Rich Bisaccia Returns to Green Bay Packers: A Personal Commitment to Matt LaFleur's Team

GREEN BAY, Wis. – At 65, Rich Bisaccia’s return to the Green Bay Packers isn’t about chasing another Super Bowl ring, but about a deeply personal drive to serve head coach Matt LaFleur and his team. The veteran special teams coordinator, set to turn 65 next month, revealed the core reason behind his decision: a desire to consistently contribute to a championship-caliber effort. Bisaccia acknowledged past shortcomings, specifically citing four critical plays that lingered beneath the surface. These included Anders Carlson’s missed field goal in the 2023 playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers, which contributed to a three-point loss, and the Bears’ trick-play punt return touchdown in Week 18 of last season, resulting in a two-point defeat. Additionally, Keisean Nixon’s opening kickoff fumble and Brandon McManus’ subsequent missed field goal during the 2023 playoffs further highlighted areas for improvement. Despite these setbacks, Bisaccia remains committed to maintaining a high standard within the kicking game, emphasizing a ‘one-play mentality’ – a crucial element he believes is vital for success. He stated, "I just have a high standard for what we’re trying to do and the way in which we’re trying to do it. Every game we have a one-play mentality in the kicking game. We don’t get three downs to make it right on offense or defense. You get one shot to punt that ball. You get one shot to kick it off, return it and so on."

Bisaccia’s motivation extends beyond strategic goals; he finds immense satisfaction in the daily interaction with the players, viewing it as a key component of his role. He emphasized, "It’s a fun job when players are in the building. There’s a bunch of X and O’s and stuff you do, evaluation process and all that in the offseason, but when you get to come to work and you get to see the players and you can draw energy from them and you can teach them how to serve each other and you can put a plan together, and then watch it come to fruition." He values the relationships he builds with the players, stating, "Or you get a guy like Nate Hobbs, and he says something about how he feels about a coach, or a relationship you may build with a player, it’s why you come to work."

Bisaccia’s approach isn’t solely driven by football; he also finds personal fulfillment in his daily routine. He humorously added, "I’ve been married, been with her 42 years, and I don’t think she wants me home. So, it’s another good reason to stay."

Ultimately, Bisaccia’s return to Green Bay represents a commitment to serving LaFleur and his team, fueled by a genuine passion for the game and a desire to contribute to a winning culture. He recognizes that age is just a number and that his primary focus remains on maximizing his impact on the team. "A lot more people seem to know about my age than I do," he said. Bisaccia’s story is a testament to the enduring spirit of a veteran coach who continues to find purpose and fulfillment in the game he loves. More Green Bay Packers News"
